“Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves.” 1 Timothy 6:2 NIV

A Letter from the Master, aka “The Boss”

Dear Slave, aka “Employee”,

I’ve been observing you and I think that I have a few things to tell you that will make this relationship between us exceptional.

Don’t steal—I am paying you for every minute that you turn in on your time card, not just the hours. Leave my supplies at the office (Leviticus 19:11).

Don’t lie about your abilities—I need the most skilled person I can afford to pay. If you tell me you can do something when you can’t, the business will suffer. If you can’t do something, be honest and ask for help (Leviticus 19:11).

Be teachable—Believe it or not, I was an employee once and have learned from the best. I have much to teach if you are willing to learn. Retain what you have learned.

Be diligent—I can’t do everything by myself. That is why I hired you. Let’s work together to get the job done well. The customer deserves the best. “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Colossians 3:2).

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord” (Colossians 3:22 NIV).

Being a boss is difficult and comes with many responsibilities.“For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required…” (Luke 12:48).

It is my job to make sure there is work for you to do and to pay you fairly. “Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven” (Colossians 4:1 NIV).

You may not be aware of the many late nights and early mornings I work to make this business successful. At times I have sacrificed and done without so that you can be employed.

Ultimately we are both accountable to God. Let’s please Him together.

Sincerely, the Boss

“Heavenly Father, please help us with our Employee-Boss relationships. We want to please You in all we do in order to be a witness to those who do not know You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
