Infant-5th Grade | KIDZONE

KidZone is the name of the children’s ministry at LCC Redding. KidZone includes ministry to, and for, children ages infants-5th grade. Our focus in KidZone is to provide a safe & age-appropriate environment where there is always opportunity for children to worship God & learn about God. KidZone meets during LCC Redding’s regular service times: Sundays at 9am &11am, & Wednesdays at 6:30pm.

WORSHIP GOD

With the exception of the nursery, all kidZone classes include an opportunity for children to worship God through song, and learn about God through a Bible lesson. Like LCC Redding’s adult & youth services, the scope & sequence of the teachings in kidZone focus on going through one book of the Bible at a time, & when that book is finished, we go through a book in the other Testament (ex: if we teach through a book in the Old Testament, our next book is found in the New Testament).

LEARN ABOUT GOD

As our lessons are age-appropriate, we do not teach every single verse of every single book in the Bible, but rather hit the highlights that children will understand. Example: We have 11 consecutive teachings in Genesis, even though Genesis has 50 chapters. Many of those chapters are combined & summarized into passages/stories (like: “Creation”). The chapters & verse references are provided so that children become familiar with studying the Bible. It takes us about 2 years to teach through the Bible, and then we begin again.

Every kidZone class for children ages 2 years old through 5th grade learns from the same passage of scripture at the same time. The curriculum is just adapted for the age of the child. So, for example: if 3 year olds are learning about Creation in their class, 9 year olds are also learning about Creation. This is purposeful so that siblings of different ages have similar lessons, which we hope will encourage conversations outside of church. Parents are always welcome to pick up a copy of our curriculum to help facilitate at-home discussions.

CAMPS & CLASSES

Throughout the year we have several events for children to attend, including VBS during President’s Week in February, an 8 week class for promoting 5th graders in the spring, sleep-away Summer Camp for 4th & 5th graders in August, various family activities (skate nights, Ninja Coalition nights, etc.) and KidZone Costume Party – held on Halloween day at LCC Redding. You can contact us for more information.

SAFETY & SECURITY

To ensure the safety of our children at LCC, every person serving in KidZone must meet the following requirements: Be a born-again Christian, complete & pass a background check, attend LCC Redding regularly for at least 6 months, and be above reproach in their character. No one leader is ever alone with children as all our classes are staffed with at least 2 volunteers (some are staffed with up to 7 volunteers). Additionally, all of our classrooms have windows & are locked 15 minutes into service to maintain a safe & controlled environment.

The toys in our classrooms are age appropriate and are regularly cleaned, especially in the nursery. We serve snacks in all of our classes & provide cards for parents to fill out to communicate if their child has an allergy.

PARENT & MINISTRY PARTNERSHIP

Along with our standard for volunteers, we have a standard for the other children your child may be interacting with, as explained below.

With the understanding that every child is loved by God, is created uniquely by God & has a personal plan designed by God that includes His desire for relationship with them, we do have policies in place to maintain the health, safety & peace for everyone inside a kidZone classroom.

Children’s ministry is a partnership with the Parent & their God-given assignment as the overseer of their child’s spiritual formation. We are here to come alongside families, but may be limited in all we can do on our campus/at our events. Therefore, if a child is at risk of willfully opening doors & running outside into the parking lot, or if they hit, shove, kick or throw sand/rocks at others, the parent will be asked to complete & pass a background check & stay with their child until these risks no longer exist. Likewise, if a child consistently disrupts the class (yelling, interrupting the class often, unable/unwilling to engage), the parent will be asked to stay. This is so that every child attending will feel safe & be able to participate in their KidZone service. This is also to protect our volunteers.

Likewise, children who have symptoms of sickness (like colds or the flu) are asked not to attend kidZone until they no longer have symptoms of sickness. We don’t want to expose all within the room to germs.
