“I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.” Isaiah 41:18

This is a picture from the Nevada desert by Pyramid Lake. It’s dry and desolate all around.

Springs of Water in the Desert

I’ve felt this this dry, desert place before, so needy of refreshment. It’s amazing how many small creatures scurry about and are at home in this dry place, but I know I am created to be different.

We are created for our Lord to fill us with His living water—a spiritual well from the Holy Spirit that never stops! “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37b-38).

I am so needy of this filling constantly. The deep well that never stops is Jesus in me. Abiding in His presence and living in obedience to Him is the place my heart and soul are truly satisfied. This is what we are created for and we need to share and spill over this joyful water to all of those around us. This is my desire: to be the LORD’s vessel to point all those who realize their thirst to the Source, Jesus Christ. I want to so live in His joy that it creates a thirst in others to desire His living water also.

This is our legacy: where God’s glory meets a dry and needy world. Living in appreciation and thankfulness for His provision in every form is life changing. This holiday season may we “go out with joy and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands!” (Isaiah 55:12).

Dear Lord, You desire our constant abiding in Your Word and, being filled with the Holy Spirit, walk in obedience, spilling over with Your springs of living water in the desert places in our world all around us. Thank You, Jesus, that this is the place of true satisfaction. We are so thankful that You hear our prayers and go before us! Amen.
