“What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?” Psalm 8:4
God of the Details
I know that God is a God of detail…I have only to open my eyes and look around, and I see it everywhere. But every once in awhile something happens that just adds an exclamation point to that! I’ve just had one of those “somethings” happen.
I have a favorite pair of earrings that I wear all the time. They have special meaning to me. A few days ago I lost the very tiny “back” of one of those earrings. I had been wearing them all day, and I had been to so many different places during the day. I didn’t notice until late afternoon, when I felt that the earring was loose, that the back was gone.
I looked as many places as I could, but it felt very unrealistic to think that I could find it. I did pray, though! I poured out my heart to God as I’ve written about recently. I told the Lord that in the big scheme of things it wasn’t very important, but it would mean a lot to me if He could help me find it. It’s a particular size to fit these earrings, so I didn’t know if I could replace it. It seemed impossible to even see such a tiny piece, much less be able to find it.
Days went by without finding it. I had been to a therapy appointment that day, and I asked the therapist to look. She had looked everywhere without success…and then a few days later she found it under a cabinet. She just “happened” to see it. It’s SOOOO tiny!
You can imagine how my heart was touched by this. It was a sweet, personal reminder of how God loves details…of how He’s concerned about the details of our lives. I would have still believed that even if I had never found the little gold backing—but it was such a special, personal reminder to my heart. It was a miracle—not an earth-shattering one in terms of what it was, but a special miracle to my heart of God’s love and care. I’m still blown away!
And if God can help me find that tiny, tiny gold earring back, I keep thinking how much more He can answer the really “important” prayers I’m lifting up to Him. My faith is encouraged. My hope is strengthened. My prayers have increased. My heart is expectant.
“God, You are a God of detail, even knowing the number of hairs on our head, and You are concerned about all the details of our lives. You, the awesome God of the universe, the Creator, are also a personal God! You care about each of us. You hear every prayer we offer up to You, and You are watching over us. Thank You for Your loving, personal care, and for answering a sweet prayer that I lifted up to You.”
Encouraging! Thank you
Amen! When I was young girl I was playing in the sand by a creek that was near my house and I lost the garnet out of a ring my mom had given me. My friend and I had played for hours in multiple spots that day. I remember praying and asking God to help me find it as it. Amazingly enough I did! It to reminded me, in the vastness of the universe (or the sand beside a creek) God cares about the big and little things in our lives. Thank you Sally for the reminder, and as always, your Spirit filled encouraging words. Lifting you and Floyd up in prayer 🙂
Whenever I lose something, it only takes a couple minutes before I know to ask for the Lord’s help finding it and He does! Praise the Lord!
Amen! My family has also experienced the Lord’s help with a small detail! While at the lake one day, my husband lost his chain while he was swimming (he forgot to take it off). We were really bummed because I loved seeing him wear this chain…I told him it added to his handsomeness so he proudly wore it for me to see. We had zero hope in finding the chain which was most likely sitting on the bottom of the very full lake. Well a few weeks after the incident, my husband’s grandparents were in the same area where the chain was lost. The lake level was much lower than when we had been there weeks before. His grandma was walking on the rocks that had previously been covered with water and she asked God to help her find her grandson’s chain. The minute of her request, she looked down by her feet and seen something faintly shimmering….my husband’s chain! God is so good!!
Shortly after my young husband passed away, I was wearing a necklace that was his last gift to me …a ‘garnet’ in the shape of a teardrop that was hanging inside another gold piece, and I could always hear it and/or feel that it was there. I arrived home from work and felt for my necklace, however, the tiny ‘garnet’ was missing. I told my girls and said I had to drive back to work to try and find it….about a 25 mile trip, one-way in So Cal freeway commuter traffic. It was early summer and it was still light outside. My youngest daughter agreed to go with me, and on the way, we prayed. Arriving at an empty parking lot, not knowing for sure which space I had parked in, we began to re-trace my steps, across the parking lot, up the outside fire-escape type stairs to the 2nd level and through the back entrance, down a long darkened hallway, into the office of cubicles, around my desk, over to the copier, and then on our hands and knees while searching for this priceless jewel. Finally, we decided to leave, and as we were going out and crossing back through the almost empty parking lot, my little one reminded me that we needed to pray again. As she stopped to tie her shoelace, there, underneath a car near a front tire, right where she decided to bend down to tie her shoe, was the ‘precious stone’! You can imagine the tears of joy that we both had, and the testimony that has stayed with us to this day. Yes, God is ‘in the details’ and we can trust Him to know our hearts and to provide for us in ways that are so meaningful to us. I praise Him and thank Him each and every day for the ‘little details’. You are all in my heart and prayers. God Bless You All.
Love this! What a lovely story/example of how much Gid cares for you…for us.
Thank you for sharing.
