Come Alive!

“Therefore He says, ‘Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.’” Ephesians 5:14

Picture the resurrection of Jesus—the glorious light, the unparalleled power, the joy of death’s defeat.

This is God’s plan: resurrection. New life. Vitality. Fresh oil, fresh anointing. God-breathed fire and passion for Him, and for a life that pleases Him.

Satan’s plan is to fire darts that anesthetize believers. His victory comes when he puts Christians to sleep, or half-sleep, stumbling about as if in the dark, unable to speak coherently about our Lord. He tries to drug us into stupor and inaction. This is the testimony of a walk with Christ that our enemy wants us to present to the world: sleepy, stupid, half-dead, incoherent stumblers and bumblers. Ineffective. Bored and unresponsive, lulled by rote, ruts, and routine.

What drugs has Satan enticed you with? Identify them, and reject them. Is it media? Ungodly relationships? Lifestyles that deny your status as a child of God?

Awake, you who sleep! Pray for revival deep within you. Meditate on God’s Word. Take time to hear what He’s saying. God wants to resurrect us to the abundance found in Him, to the joy of living in Him, to kingdom work, to intimacy. Don’t settle for lethargy in your soul.

Father, by Your Spirit, resurrect us from the dead. Do what You must; help us do what we must. Amen.
