“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

Divine Mysteries

Sometimes the way God directs your path is to close every door except for the one you are meant to go through. And so you have no choice but to walk forward or keep banging your head against closed doors. Sometimes I bang my head on a door a few times before I am able to recognize the light emanating from over there…hey, look, over there, an open doorway! Walk through it.

The more I keep my eyes on Jesus, the less head banging is likely to happen. I cannot keep my eyes on Jesus and on my feet at the same time. One makes me turn my face down, the other makes me turn my face up. I only have one head, with one face on it. I can only turn it one direction at a time. I have found that if I am looking at Jesus, and not at my feet, my feet always end up moving forward exactly where they are supposed to go.

Where is Jesus? Well, He’s in my heart, in the form of the Holy Spirit, shining out and wrapping me in his light. He is with me all the time, speaking—the friend that sticks closer than a brother. But He is also sitting at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. He is sitting down because His work is already done, He has already fulfilled the whole requirement of the law specified in the Old Testament.

But I live in an Earth world that is shrouded in darkness. Jesus wants to break through that darkness for everyone. He wants me to be a light that leads them to Him. If you are a Christian, people can tell. You can’t help but shine, and either this is something people want, or it is something that they are repulsed by because they would rather choose to wallow in darkness and gloom. They would rather choose to be cloaked in shame and left alone to numb death living. But Jesus never forces anyone to follow Him. He longs for all of them—He is not willing that any should perish—but He never forces anyone to follow. It is our choice, and everyone has to make that choice individually.

You cannot be banging your head on one door, and walking through another at the same time. You cannot be looking up and looking down at the same time. You are either wrapped up in light or you are wrapped up in darkness. For that is the nature of open and shut, up and down, light and dark.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You that my life is hidden in Christ. I belong to you, Jesus. In Your Precious Holy Name, Amen.
