“Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah.” Psalm 68:19
Blessing
A male co-worker stopped by my desk one afternoon. “I just have to tell somebody what I did last night. I made dinner for my wife and I, and it was SO TASTY.”
“What did you make?”
“Pancakes. I like breakfast for dinner once in awhile, and I looked online and found a recipe for fluffy pancakes. They melted in your mouth. They weren’t cakey. She hates cakey pancakes. These were soft and smooth, and she loved them.”
“I bet she liked that you cooked dinner.”
“I don’t do it often, but I did it for her, just so she wouldn’t have to cook.” He smiled, proud of himself for making something delicious, and that he’d made his wife happy with something so simple.
It reminded me of our heavenly Father. He blesses us just because He likes to. Just because He loves us. Not because one blessing will change our lives (although it could), but because He can do things for us that make us happy.
I can think of multitudes of blessings He gives that fall under the category of “Things He Just Wants To Do For Us.” Eagles flying over the Sacramento River. A good night’s sleep. Rainbows shining against black clouds. Autumn colors on trees you barely notice the rest of the year. Overwintering flower bulbs that divide underground and come up in unexpected places the next spring.
Oh…and our very breath. Provision of every sort. His blessed Word. His own Spirit dwelling within. Friendship and intimacy with Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth. Promises to never leave us, to right every wrong, to take us into eternity with Him.
Let’s ask for the awareness to see the daily blessings He gives so freely. He loves to do it, you know. Just because He loves us.
We’d love to post your comments about the daily things God does for you—just because He loves you.
Father, we see expressions of Your love all around us. We give You praise for the daily benefits You shower on us. You don’t have to do it, but You do it anyway. Thank You.
Every time my husband walks back through our front door and kids home from school. Every Monday this is my favorite thing – family reunification on the first day everyone has gone back to work and school. A warm puppy cuddling on my bed. Finding an item that was once lost after bringing the somewhat insignificant request before Him. Crisp, bright, beautiful sunrises. A hot cozy cup of coffee. There are SO many more, but these are a few of my favorite things!
So many sweet blessings when we pay attention. Thank you for the refreshing reminder.
I’m so blessed to live in a time where glasses and contacts have already been invented! I think of how blurry my life would be without them and all the beautiful details I would miss out on every day. Seeing clearly…what a blessing! 🤓
Coming back to a warm home and a hot shower after a cold walk or run. Staying healthy when those around me are sick. Strength to exercise. Provision to buy anything I like at the grocery store. A reliable car. The ability to learn new things and the joy of discovery. I really marvel at what He showers on me daily!
The laughs and pouty faces of a new grandchild.
I have been in awe of the beautiful winter skies, the mountains white with snow, God the artist! I love clouds especially the white fluffy ones, I’m reminded that one day Jesus shall descend and call my name and we shall meet Him in the air!
my husband works overtime in his retired years to help me with the things that cant be retired from, laundry , dishes, cleaning up the house…too many to list…God gave me one of his greatest gifts…daily companionship & dedication to our relationship. we r blessed nearly daily with an extraordinary sunset, i cant get enough of those…and lets not overlook bacon and popcorn☺️
I have been sitting on this devotional for almost a week trying to think of how to squeeze hundreds of little blessings every day into a ‘comment’… The very smallest of blessings.. finding little lost items to family, always answered prayers.. The list is so incredibly long! I have learned to be thankful for every little thing that crosses my mind.
I cannot say often enough: we are so blessed to be a part of His family with access to the throne at every moment!
