“’Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, God-with-us.” Matthew 1:23
God With Us
Walk His Way Revisited
Yesterday we celebrated the birth of God-With-Us.
This baby, like all babies, lived in a womb, traveled through a birth canal, and was born wet, naked, and probably squalling at the disturbance of His peaceful rest.
Imagine—He came to be with us. With us! With us! “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
Jesus is God’s glory, something that is referred to as shekina. Shekina is God’s glorious presence on earth in a visible way. A physical manifestation—a way to see God.
Did I just say, “See God?” How is it possible? For no man has seen God at any time. “You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form” (John 5:37).
What a miracle: the incarnation of Christ, “putting on” flesh as if it was a robe, so He could dwell among us as a Person that we can see instead of a Spirit that we cannot see. “Now the Lord is the Spirit…” (2 Corinthians 3:17). “God is Spirit…” (John 4:24).
He came so we could see and know the Father. “He who has seen Me has seen the Father…” (John 14:9). Good tidings of great joy for all the people! Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).
Oh great God and King, we have no words to express our thanks for Your indescribable gift, Your own Son. You’ve given so much; receive from us the gift of our hearts. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
So many things to be grateful for, but God offering Himself to/for us! Bless the Lord, O my soul!
“I bring you good tidings of great joy…” now those are some words to cling to in times of fear and uncertainty. Blessed assurance.
