“And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly hosts praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’” Luke 2:13-14
Glory in the Sky
Walk His Way Revisited
What a glorious explosion in the sky before the lowly shepherds—a multitude (huge amount) of heavenly hosts praising God for the wonderful event that was happening on this cold, seemingly normal, night. God was bringing forth the magnificent birth of the Savior given to humankind: God born in human flesh.
What started out as a normal, probably boring, night had turned into the most startling event beyond imagination. This was one of the most joyous experiences as the Creator of the universe chose these simple guys to see an explosion of glory and beauty, then receive the announcement of the birth of the much-awaited Savior.
In reading this section in Luke, I’m always amazed at the reality of this scene and the dramatic, intense, encounter that changed their lives forever. They would still remain shepherds watching over their flocks, but their innermost beings were full of joy and hope as the promised Messiah had been announced to and seen by them personally.
This dramatic, life-changing encounter we can experience today as we too have been invited into the presence of the Almighty when we approach in humble belief and anticipation in prayer and reading God’s Word. Also in our life experiences we see glimpses of glory. Many times I don’t even realize it until the day is over. When I ponder over the day’s occurrences, I can see God’s obvious hand of blessing all over it.
I would have loved to have been there that night seeing the glorious angels’ brilliance and hearing the unimaginable sound of their harmonious voices. Yet I know the Lord always meets me daily exactly where and when I need Him. The gentle goodness of His presence never ceases to amaze me. His promises are revealed in and through other’s lives and answered prayer in His perfect way and time. My favorite is seeing a person come to know the reality of the gift of salvation in Jesus and seeing their joy become contagious in their world.
And we know we will one day have this same experience of angels and multitudes singing and praising before the throne of our Lord as Revelation 4 reminds us. I can’t wait for that, but as we await, we can experience His glory daily.
This is the time of year where we get to celebrate and enjoy with family and friends the gift of God’s precious Son and ponder on the reality of His salvation, as we walk this out daily in godly awe focused on His purpose and will, knowing it’s for good.
Father, thank You that we get to participate like the shepherds by knowing Jesus as our Savior and sharing Him. May we always notice Your glory showing up daily in our lives. Amen.
Coming soon!
I love this picture of beholding a multitude of angels. What a sight that must have been!
I too wish I could have seen this!
