“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Christmas Gift

I love watching my granddaughter in daily transformation, learning, experiencing, and testing. (She’s 19 months old.) The gift of life from our own loins is remarkable! The blessing of participation with life God allows is a miracle. I’m in awe and amazed of His blessing.

And even more remarkable is God’s incredible gift in the Word becoming flesh, and dwelling among us to show us His glory, grace, truth and love.

Many times when December rolls around, I feel like Scrooge. I have to drag out the decorations and start my shopping. But as I see the neighborhood light up with color and the message of Christmas is being taught in the church service, and then family discussions of holiday plans for the month— an excitement wells up and the spirit of Christmas grabs my soul.

This reality of God’s love for us can be overwhelming. Pure, holy, perfect, sinless God left His endless, eternal, glorious home in heaven and allowed Himself to be confined to a human, sinful body of flesh. The King of Kings was born in a lowly feeding trough to an impoverished couple and subjected Himself to obedience to accomplish the Father’s will, that humankind could have redemption, fulfilling the promise of ages.

Listening to Christmas carols (hymns) of old, the words we’ve sung for generations share this powerful message that is able to change lives, and God desires to speak through them to this needy world. He also uses the kindness we share in our daily lives to touch a lonely heart. I am convinced that the joy He continues to pour through me will give me the opportunity to share the reason for my joy to anyone who asks, and maybe even to those who don’t. My prayer is: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable [and effective for Your purpose] in Your sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).

As we meditate this season on the reality of the Word becoming flesh and dwelling among us, may our hearts be full of joy and pour out His kindness to this needy world. I pray you enjoy learning and experiencing the daily wonders and joys the Lord gives (like my granddaughter). God uses these gifts to draw you to His love, so that through you, His overwhelming love can be shared with this needy world. Merry Christmas!

Dear Lord, thank You for stooping down and humbly entering our world through the life of a babe in a manager. May this reality captivate our world this Christmas season as we truly enjoy your blessings, and the Holy Spirit through each of us is contagious to draw others to You, Jesus.
