“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
Chasing Leaves
Walk His Way Revisited
Here I am on the couch with my Bible nearby. Will I open it?
Here I am with a fire roaring beside me, the boys in their beds, husband busy in another room.
Here I am.
But am I really here?
Do You have my full attention?
Can I give You my full attention?
Must I be constantly entertained?
Or must I chase every thought like chasing the wind?
I see myself chasing thoughts as I would chase leaves in a storm.
Oh—I almost have it. Oh. Oh. Run get it! Oh here is another pretty one! Oh—can I grab it? Oh. Oh!!
Grab my phone. Take a note. Grab my phone, Google some nonsense. Get lost for 20 minutes. Where am I? What just happened? Oh. Nothing. Just time slipping away.
Again.
Oh the leaves! Here’s another one!
I look like a fool!!!
I am dizzy spinning around with outstretched arms trying to catch leaves that never seem to be mine.
Fool!
Aimless.
Witless.
Chasing chaotic leaves.
Chasing the insignificant.
Wake up, fool!!
The leaves are blowing away to nowhere. To a place of no concern.
Is that where I want to end up?!
How about “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path?!”
Oh—the path. Yes. There used to be a path beneath these whirling leaves. I have memory of a wonderful path.
I want to be on a sure path!
Not running in circles chasing whatever the seasons’ distractions may be!
These leaves are only here for a season—very temporary.
My path has an eternal destination.
No more chasing leaves.
“Lord, may there be no distractions that would keep me from Your Word. Amen.”
Amen…
This is so good and true. My mind wanders too during my morning time with Jesus. Writing my thoughts and prayers to Him helps keep me on track.
Thank you! ❤️
So easy to get distracted/lost…
It is so encouraging to know I am not alone. I, too, find I stay focused more when I take up a pen and write my thoughts and prayers and praise.
