“How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at first began to be spoken by the LORD, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.” Hebrews 2:3

Carry On

It is an easy thing to begin to take for granted our faith in Christ. It is an easy thing to lose focus on our calling and get comfortable with life as we find it. It is easy to close our eyes and relax a little and come to realize we are drifting.

We have not arrived. Our work is not yet complete. His Spirit is still speaking. His kingdom has not yet fully come. “And do this, knowing the time, that it is high time to awake out of sleep; knowing that our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11).

Christianity is a faith that requires, even demands, intentional pursuit and passion. It is not a set of rules and regulations, but a living, breathing relationship with an Almighty God. It requires our full attention, all our heart, all our mind, and all our strength. “Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD…” (Hosea 6:3).

I had the fleeting thought that perhaps God was done with me as relates to active ministry, adventures, assignments and missions. Perhaps this was a time to just rest on my laurels, so to speak. That momentary reflection was swiftly vaporized by spiritual reality. We are urged over and over again to “press on” and to “continue.” We are ever moving toward God, and He will not be done doing amazing things in our lives until we awaken forever changed in His presence. As long as we breathe, He will use us for His glory.

You may feel disqualified—you are not. You may have fallen into some sin, yet He will wash you white as snow. He forgives and restores you fully. You may feel inadequate. He equips you and empowers you. Trust me, you are not done—because God is not done with you. He is the One that will complete and perfect His work in you and through you.

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:14).

“If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard…” (Colossians 1:23).

“But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them” (2 Timothy 3:14).

Father, I am willing to be fully used for Your purposes. By Your Spirit and Your Word, strengthen me to carry on in the giftings and calling You have spoken to me. The race is not yet won. The fight is not finished. The fat lady is not singing. Awaken us and stir us, for our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Amen.
