“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.“ 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
Worry
The dictionary tells us the word worry means: A state of anxiety; an uncertainty over actual or potential problems.
Wow! Does that sound like what we all have been experiencing in this season of our lives? I know for me this past 18 months has revealed much. I have realized that I am not always relying on God, not always trusting Him for the results, and certainly not always obeying His ways. His Word tells us in Philippians 4:6 GNT, “Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.”
Have you ever been so worried and upset that you couldn’t even have a single straight thought? Well, it is true, worry clogs the mind with fear, anxiety and doubt. Logical reasoning just isn’t happening, and why? All because we worry.
Turning off worry is not an easy thing, I know. I have spent many sleepless nights worrying over this or that, things that really are not in my control, but I think they are—until God steps in. Somehow His small sweet, calming voice gets through to my brain and my heart and says STOP! You cannot do this on your own; you must allow Me to intervene and calm your worried nerves; I can take care of this. Now I’m not saying that all of a sudden, all my worries just magically disappeared, but I do know I can trust God and His Word. Sometimes we do need to address something important—don’t we need a clear and unclogged mind to proceed?
God is the answer we are looking for. His Word tells us to lean on Him. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
As moms/grandmas we can worry over almost anything at any time, and sometimes we are correct to do so, but worry can paralyze us, and stop us from hearing God. Worry can move into those gaps between our thoughts and trusting God. Worry can reveal that our hearts are not relying on God, and can put the burden of “fixing things” on us, when really God is saying, “Hey, let Me take care of this one.”
Are you ready and willing to let go and let God? Worry can shorten our lives, cause medical issues and is just no fun! Let’s check our hearts and minds, and leave the outcome to God….
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Mathew 6:34 NLT).
Amen.
