“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Unplug
Walk His Way Revisited
Just unplug, was the encouragement I felt from the Lord a few nights ago. I had awakened in a panic, worrying and anxious about all kinds of things. Thoughts kept flooding my mind. I’d close my eyes and the thoughts would come back: did I pay that bill? Or can we pay that bill? I forgot to do a certain task at work and worried if I would get to work early enough to make sure it was done. Are my dad’s affairs in order? (I take care of my dad’s financial stuff.) All these things!! Anxiety amplified in my embellished thoughts. I thought: really? What’s going on here?
Then the Lord gently reminded me, “He has this and is in complete control.” Just rest. Unplug. After praying and remembering a couple of Scriptures, I rested in His peace and fell back to sleep.
This type of anxiety is provoked by the enemy of our souls who looks for vulnerable moments. The word says in Psalm 91:5, “You should not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flies by day” (when I’m staying in His refuge); and, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Resist him!” (1 Peter 5:8-9a); and, “Perfect love casts out all fear” (1 John 4:18).
In the morning I realize how dramatized the whole event had been (even though it was just for five minutes). In my quiet time God reminded me again He’s the boss and I need to stay tucked in His peace by remembering Scripture and prayer. Sometimes these tormenting moments are things that need to be dealt with in the morning, but anxiety isn’t from the Lord. In His perfect wisdom and His time, He will work it out for His glory and will accomplish what concerns us.
We can be “Casting our cares on the Lord, for He care for us” (1 Peter 5:7). To cast off cares means to trust the Lord completely and unplug, relinquish control! “Set (or fix) your eyes on things above, not things of the earth” (Colossians 3:2).
Our God is so wonderful. How much He loves us and desires our complete rest to be in Him.
Dear Lord, I know You are in complete control and we can be anxious for nothing in You. May we stay in Your refuge knowing You “have this” and we can trust in You in the midst of anxiety. We can let our requests be made known to You, and Your peace floods our hearts. Praise You, Lord! In Jesus Name.
One of the first things the Lord brought to my attention as an adult Christian was Peter walking on the water. As long as his eyes were single on the Lord, he was fine, but when he remembered the ‘actual’ circumstances of what he was doing and where he was, he began to sink. And yet the Lord was faithful to save.
I do the same at night and have had many discussions with God in the wee hours of the night. So glad He doesn’t sleep!
Last night was like that for me. Thank you!
