“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Messiah; if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified with Him.” (Romans 8:14-17 HNV)

He Knows

Walk His Way Revisited

I truly celebrate what an incredible daddy my husband has been to our three kids. Our oldest is not his biologically, but nevertheless belongs to him every bit as much as the other two do. He has loved our kids with an openness and agape love through some pretty ugly things and awful times. Honestly, the love he has shown—the sincere love with a pure heart of 1 Peter 1:22-23—boggles my mind.

It has been a delight to watch my son now parent with that same heart. He had a wonderful example. My husband had a wonderful example in his dad as well, but he went deeper…he looked to his heavenly Abba Father to see how to be a dad. He attended Promise Keeper’s conferences, had fellowship with other men and dads at Man Camp and Men at the Cross breakfasts, and read the Word…the Word…the Word, in devotions, home groups, Bible Studies, Wednesday night and Sunday morning church, and on his own time.

He knows that his heavenly Dad has all the answers, because God has written them down in His Word for us all to find and follow and has demonstrated it in our lives and the lives of those around us.

My husband also knows that:

God is our Protector: Jehovah Nissi (Exodus 17:15);

He is our Provider: Jehovah Jireh (Genesis 22:14);

He is our Peace: Jehovah Shalom (Judges 6:23-24); and

He sees us: Jehovah Roi (Genesis 16:13-14).

My husband knows that if he asks, the Lord will tell him things which he doesn’t know (Jeremiah 33:3); that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26); and his personal favorite, the Lord will renew his strength (Isaiah 40:31).

He has not had the easiest parenting assignment. There have been many trials and deep pain, but also such incredible beauty and joy (Isaiah 61:3). He has run the race well (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Thank You, Lord, for providing the answers to make my husband such a wonderful father. Please remind him, and all the other incredible dads out there, what blessings they truly are. Amen.
