“Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalm 107: 8-9
The Goodness of God
Oh, the goodness of God. Let that sit for a moment.
Provision, a perfectly timed word, deliverance from distress, or an unexplainable healing presence. From the awesome and profound answer to our wildest prayer, to the tender, quiet, and delicate touch of God on our deepest and most vulnerable moment.
Oh, that we would give thanks to the Lord for this goodness. Oh, that we would give thanks in remembrance of all His goodness past, His goodness in this very moment, and His promised goodness forward. Oh, that our deepest longing would be satisfied wholly and completely by Him alone.
I am always impressed how quickly we can lose sight of the goodness of God. How quickly we fear that deep longing in our souls when it starts to feel uncomfortable or starts to stretch us in ways we are not prepared for. How easily we are swayed by circumstances and emotions, tempting us to revert to filling that longing void with anything quick or tangible rather than calling out to Jesus Himself.
But You, God!
You know our deepest longings and you meet us right there. Not with a quick fix to make us feel better. No, with perfect and complete goodness that fills our deepest longing to the fullest. We choose to respond to You today, and each day forward, thanking You, God, for Your goodness…even when the goodness is not obvious in our finite perspective. Let us meet You each day—in Your Spirit and Your Word—to cry out to You, God. You are complete, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. Let us look to You alone to fill our hungry souls, then thank You in faith for Your goodness.
Father God, thank You for your goodness. Thank You that You are always working for our good—even when we cannot see it. We choose to trust your goodness and align our spirits with Yours. Let Your Word come alive in us and fill our deepest hunger with Your complete love. Transform and train our minds to view each circumstance, each detail of our day, through Your lens and joyfully praise Your goodness regardless of our limited understanding. We run to You first, and to You alone, to satisfy that specific longing in our souls. Give us a fresh infilling of Your Spirit today. To You be all the glory. In your GOOD name, Amen.
AMEN!!!
Great is Your faithfulness, great is Your faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see!
