“You have given him his heart’s desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.” Psalm 21:2 (NKJV)
Kids These Days
Every time I visit my four grand kiddos—now teenagers—I’m excited to see progress in their gifts and talents. With their school schedules, friends, and activities, I don’t have the pleasure of visiting them every day, which is sad for me, but when I do have the opportunity, I get a little glimpse of God’s design and purpose for them on this earth and it is fascinating to me. As far as their parents’ view—well, they are deeply involved in raising them, and will look at me and shake their heads when one of them act like a “teenager,” and I commend them for their diligence in training them. My view, as a grandmother, is quite different from their parents’ view: I see them searching for their purpose in life, finding their skills—and probably not even knowing it—as well as the desire to enjoy life and have fun.
Kids these days have beautiful minds. The knowledge that they attain from all aspects of life is quite baffling to me—especially concerning technology. I’m not expressing this only regarding my own grandchildren, but also young children and middle school ages as well. Many are wise beyond their years.
I had the opportunity to speak at a local academy for middle and high school students regarding my career and experiences, and what courses and degrees are required if they choose this profession. As an Interior Designer, I was able to share other career opportunities that complement design such as CAD (computer-aided design), architects, engineers, builders, installers, electricians, plumbers, painters and artists (to name a few), as well as the general contractor and the necessary sub-contractors that work together to accomplish a residential or commercial project. As you can see, it takes several occupations to complete the client’s dream, as well as communication on everyone’s part to pursue the end result of the desired plan.
I was encouraged that particular day by the students’ comprehension and participation. I commended them for their abilities and shared with them how fortunate they are to be living in this time despite the challenges that the pandemic has placed on them, their teachers, and their parents—they are stronger for it.
God instilled in us our gifts and talents from birth. It is up to each of us to remain focused on our relationship with Jesus; we will then see His purpose for our lives unfold for His glory—and if God chooses to move us to another profession, there is a reason for it. He’s got a plan. Changes like these can be scary; prayer is the key while we remain close to Jesus, and in return He will give us His peace, grace, and direction for our lives, and for the lives of kids these days.
Thank You, Lord, for giving us life. May we always abide in You. Amen.
Thank you for such a positive view of today’s kids and the hope and dreams they can and do have…this really blessed me!
Amen! Thank you for sharing!
