“He has shown, you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
Walking
One of my favorite times to seek the Lord and pray is while walking. This has been my Let me summarize some things I’ve learned by experience:
We can benefit from walking if it’s just around the block. It’s so good for us physically and mentally, yet I think the biggest benefit is spiritual. Jesus walked and talked with His disciples and wants to walk and talk with us. So many applications for our daily lives: Romans 4:12, we are called to walk in the steps of faith as Abraham did. Romans 6:4, we walk in the newness of life (we are refreshed by the Holy Spirit daily). Romans 8:1, we are not to walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Galatians 5:16, when we walk in the Spirit we do not carry out the deeds of the flesh. All of these refer to moving through life, yet we can reflect on them while walking.
Mentally this past year, it has become a must to escape from the four walls of our home to experience a fresh release of thought and clarity of mind from things that cause worry. It has been proven that walking is just as valuable as time spent with a therapist or by taking an antidepressant, and it’s also a joy to fellowship with a friend as we go on a walk together.
Our lives are to be a walk with God, figuratively speaking, but this also can be literal. Often times while I’m walking I listen to the Bible on my phone app, Christian books on Audible including biographies, or worship music; but my favorite is just the sounds of nature around me. I’m drawn into a special place. Nature becomes 3-D by sight, sound and smell, especially while on a walking trail or in a park. Many times while in my own neighborhood as I look up at the beauty of His creative sky or hear the joyous sounds of children playing, I’m so blessed. Birds fly by, the wind blows the trees, and the magnificent formation of clouds and sky colors delight my heart and soul. This is a gift to experience His creation, as if submersed in His presence.
We all have our special places where the Lord meets each of us. I think the most important thing is that we do get away and take time to enjoy His presence and fellowship, listening for that still small voice. Praying you will be blessed however that looks for you.
Dear Lord, thank You for calling us away to Your presence. We pray that we can focus and keenly hear, see and smell Your love for us through Your creation and Your Word. Be magnified in our lives. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Yes, I too enjoy the Lord’s blessings as I walk. Such a special time of fellowship-thanks for writing!
Thank you for your writings. So special, so inspirational. I wake up very early. Usually, 5ish. This is my quiet time, my spiritual time, my bible reading time. I also enjoy the mornings as the birds awake and the sun rises. Walks and nature are a perfect spiritual time for all of us. Blessings,
