“My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working.” John 5:17 (NIV)
Our Father Is Always Working
He is always working.
This is something we often grasp as head knowledge. We know from His Word that He is always working, but there is often that circumstance that pushes us beyond our comfort zone—when our limited understanding hides the truth that He is currently doing a mighty work. How do we move forward when we can’t figure out why or how, or our endurance and strength wear thin?
Recently, my husband made a decision for our family that I struggled with deeply. I voiced my concern and asked him to reconsider. To no avail. The Holy Spirit immediately called me on my attitude toward my husband and clearly led me to build him up as the leader despite my disagreement. Tempted to take the situation into my own hands, I chose to be obedient and step out in faith and trust.
The coming months were not easy. The circumstances showed little evidence of God intervening. Again, the Spirit prompted…step forward in faith, CHOOSE to believe and claim HIS WORD over your feelings or understanding. So, I repeated Jesus’ words over and over until they transformed my head knowledge to heart knowledge.
“You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand” (John 13:7 NIV).
“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13 NIV).
“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways…as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV).
“We know that in all things God works for the good of those that love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NIV).
It took diligence, steeping in these truths, confession and repentance, and Holy Spirit empowerment. Rather than speak words to my husband, I prayed for wisdom, leadership, and humility…for both of us! And for months, I had to sit in these promises and act in faith that God was working for our good.
I am happy to announce that the Spirit moved in my husband. He redirected the steps of this family because the Spirit moved in his heart. I could have pushed my will and shamed my husband, but by His grace, I kept quiet. As a result, God had room to move in both of our hearts. My faith and trust in God has vastly increased and my husband is a stronger leader because God changed his heart—not me!
Father God, thank You that You are always working. Thank You that we can trust You for Your Word and promises even when we cannot see or feel it. Build up our faith and trust in You as we make room for Your ways above ours. Amen!
Excellent reminder! Thank you!
What a great reminder to stand in and on God promises, even when we are not sure that is what we want to do. God is faithful, thanks for helping us to see more clearly our obedience to God, has everything to do with Him working things out in our life.
