Life’s a Beach

Walk His Way Revisited

It’s kind of amusing to me that I have a sign in my home that says “Life’s a Beach.” I looked at it today and laughed, thinking my home is not anywhere near to a beach, and life sometimes is really not like a beach at all. I think of the beach as gorgeous, carefree, relaxing, inspiring, refreshing, bright sunshine, timeless, laughter, joy, being weightless, playing in the salty water, and so much more. Can real life match this fun beach scene?

I began to take another look at the beach in a somewhat different way:

The sand can be messy, uncomfortable, irritating on our skin and dirty.

The waves can knock us down if we are not watching. They are unpredictable and we can drift out too far with a swift current.

The sun can burn our skin if we are not protected, hurt our eyes by being too bright, and even distort our vision when it is very hot.

These descriptions sounded more like real life, not the beach in my mind. As I thought about this, I realized with God’s Word ingrained into our hearts, we can always be prepared for a real life beach day, even if it’s just in our daydreaming.

When we apply God’s Word to everything, even these beach elements can be seen in new light.  The sand is God’s Word that refines us, sifts us, and exfoliates the deadness in our hearts and minds. The water is God’s Word, water for our souls, cleansing us and refreshing us and giving us new life, so we will never thirst again (John 4:14). The sun is God’s light to show us the way (John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”), as well as energy for power, vitamin D for our bodies and joy for our souls. “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).

Thank you for taking this little playful journey with me today to see how we can apply God’s Word to anything and look at things in a new light. I hope you have fun applying God’s Word in your own life to new things and places that inspire you to dream big and walk closer to Him.

Thank You, Father, for creating this beautiful earth for us to live in and enjoy. You have made everything beautiful! Amen.
