“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song I will praise Him.” Psalm 28:7

A Song in the Night

Walk His Way Revisited

It was a dark and stormy morning in February. I stepped out into my garage and looked out of the open door at the pouring rain. The clouds were low, the sky grey, and the downpour very loud. Then I heard somewhere in the trees out there, a little bird just singing his heart out as though it was a beautiful spring day. Where could he be located in order to sing such a joyous song and not be pounded by all that rain? Though I was glad to see the much-needed rain, the Lord used the song of that little bird to remind me that the sun was still shining out there somewhere above all those rain clouds!

How often I forget that circumstances do not change the reality that God is still on the throne and in control of every situation, trial, and challenge that come my way. How often I grumble and complain that God is not answering my prayers, even though He is using those very things to accomplish what I’ve asked, when I pray, “Change me into Your likeness,” “Make me a servant,” or “Here’s my heart—not my will but Yours be done.”

Like that little bird who sang his song “on that dark day”, I want to sing the song He gives me to sing when I don’t see His perfect plan; when the days are dark and drear; when I lose hope that “spring is on its way.”

Our God is a covenant-keeping God. His Word never fails. He is good, patient, faithful and true. He deserves all the praise no matter what is happening in my life or how I feel about it at the time. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” ALL THINGS!

Father, thank You for loving me, and for being so gentle and patient. Remind me to sing Your praises on those dark days. There is none like You. You are sovereign, and my hope is in You only. You deserve all the praise, all the glory, all the time, Amen!
