“I love the LORD, because He has heard My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.” Psalm 116:1-2

He Listens

If, when you were a child, your parents did not listen to you, eventually you would not call on them any more. They would not have known when you needed help, or were hurting, or hungry. You would have turned away to some other source of help, solace, or provision. A child who is not heard likely does not feel loved.

Good parents, of course, train their child to listen to the sound of their voice. One way they do this is by listening when the child says something. They set the example by inclining their ears to the child and looking the child in the eye as they listened, showing how crucial that moment is to them. Then, being an adult, they proceed appropriately, with the ability and strength to meet the need, or the wisdom to present a better way to proceed.

“As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities whose who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are as dust” (Psalm 103:13-14).

We may feel strong and solid, but this verse tells me that we are actually as fragile as dust. Thankfully, our God is a good Father. He does listen, and there is ample proof of that not only in the Word, but in the testimonies of faithful ones. We also have ample proof of His love for us, and so we listen to Him, and we love Him.

Let’s develop the habit of calling on Him for everything. We are certain that He hears us and He will do what is best for us and for His kingdom.

Father, thank You for hearing when we call. Because You listen, we have the confidence to call upon You now for those things in our lives that need Your touch, Your healing, Your provision, Your presence. We worship You!
