“For the LORD spoke this to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people.” Isaiah 8:11

Walk His Way Revisited

I noticed this verse one day when I was flipping through the Bible without any real destination in mind. And it jumped out at me!

The LORD spoke“: I had better be listening.

With a strong hand“: it made me think of my Dad’s hand…strong, capable, disciplining forcefully on the “seat of knowledge” when needed: I had better be paying attention.

The Lord instructed“: I had better stay focused.

That I should not walk in the way of this people“: the world and all of its fleshly enticements.

Whew. That small verse spoke powerful volumes to me.

So now that I had this verse sitting there in front of me, I couldn’t ignore it. I had to ask myself how I was doing at not walking in the way of this people. How were my movie choices? How were my T.V. show choices? How were my clothing choices? How about my vocabulary choices? How about my attitude? How were my free time choices? How were my responses when I was irritated or angry? How about my book choices? How were my music choices? How about jokes? How about computer games? How about computer viewing? How’s the content of my conversations? How am I spending the finances the Lord has entrusted to me? The list went on and on!

It’s good to take a look at our Christian walk from time to time. Let’s make sure the world isn’t creeping in and causing us to stumble.

Father, help me to walk in Your ways and not stumble along in the ways of this world. Help me see what is pleasing to You and then do it. Help me walk worthy of the calling You have placed upon me as Your child. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
