“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
Our Amazing God
You probably know how frustrating it can be when you want to make an appointment or get a problem solved by talking to someone on the phone. First of all, you get a recorded message of some kind and are told to listen carefully to the menu (which may have changed since you last called) and then select the number that corresponds to what you are calling about. So you press the one that seems best and are told to hold for the next available operator. After a few minutes of music, another recorded voice tells you that your call is very important to them, so please stay on the line. More music; again the recorded voice assures you that your call is very important to them and that your call will be answered in the order in which it was received. This may happen for several minutes until you hear what sounds like an actual person coming on the line only to be disappointed to hear a click, then a dial tone. So you repeat the whole process again, but this time after several transfer sounds you hear a “thank you for calling and good bye.” That is so frustrating! Been there?
I’m so glad we don’t have to go through a grueling process like that in order to talk to God. He has no business hours that can delay our call. We have direct access to Him day or night, any time or any place for any reason. And we don’t need a device or special “menu number” to reach Him. We can “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). In fact, He knows our need even if we don’t, or how to even ask. His Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26, 27), and many times He speaks to us even when we don’t “call” Him first. Let us have ears to hear!
It’s truly amazing to me how the Lord, who holds the whole universe together, holds us and hears every prayer and every heart’s cry all at the same time. We don’t have to wait for our turn to talk to Him. And because He loves us, our call really IS important to Him. He assures us in His Word that He hears us and will answer us (Isaiah 30:19b). This amazing God loves us beyond measure, is aquainted with all our ways, and invites us to have an intimate relationship with Him. As the Great I AM, He is able and promises “to supply all our need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). He is all we really need and we can always depend on Him. It doesn’t get any better than that! Hallellujah!
Lord, You are truly amazing, beyond anything we can comprehend. Thank You for Your unfailing love and continual care no matter how things are or seem to be. Amen!
Amen!!
