“…which He will manifest in His own time. He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable Light, whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:15-16 NKJV
LORD of Lords
In the craziness and confusion of our current times, it is so good to know our Lord is in complete control. It is so easy to get distracted and take our eyes off of this truth. Yet when we read His Word and the Holy Spirit confirms in our hearts this truth: “The LORD reigns! Let the earth rejoice! Let the multitude of isles be glad!” (Psalm 97:1), we can rest and live in His peace.
He is the only Potentate! Potentate means ruler and/or authority, Sovereign majesty with great power and sway. He’s the Mighty One! When we think about that and the words in the above verse: “…who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable Light, whom be honor and everlasting power,” there is no room for any fear or self-reliance. He holds all majesty and control.
It does require my willingness and complete surrender to His Lordship in all areas of my life to receive this rest and peace. It is my choice to keep my eyes up on the LORD, trusting His reign and control. I can’t allow myself to be motivated by fear, greed or self-pride, but be motivated by His goodness, righteousness and grace. I often times find myself swayed by others’ opinions, expectations, and reactions. I need to look to Him and abide in this mindset, knowing His intention is good and to bring us joy, then I can gladly surrender and obey His Word and ordained path. This joy also is contagious and spreads to everyone else in our lives, allowing the Holy Spirit to touch hearts through His presence in us.
We can rejoice, be glad, and look forward to the new year with bated breath, watching in excitement, not fear. We can know we are blessed: “Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD” (Jeremiah 17:7).
The times are in His capable hands. We can completely trust His rule and reign. His Kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36), yet it’s over the whole universe. We live here now, but our treasure is in heaven. Our purpose is to worship our King, the LORD of Lords. We need to enjoy our quiet time in His Word and prayer, allowing His rule and reign in our hearts, surrendering to His powerful sway. We will see His will, trusting His timing, even when things seem to be falling apart all around us. We can watch Him meet us through His peace as He answers our heart’s prayers in His time.
Dear Holy, Sovereign LORD. Only You are the Sovereign Potentate. We surrender our desires and our plans to Your capable hands and are excited to see Your outcome. Thank You for Your love and direction in our lives. Amen!
Especially now, we need to remember He will never leave us nor forsake us.
Keeping our eyes on Him not what is happening around us.
