“I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:11
How Is Your Word?
Joy and the Scripture above was the word that I selected to be my word this year. I must confess that I’d all but forgotten after everything that has been going on and yet the year has had a lot of joy in it in spite of the bad.
As the holidays approach, the word Joy is certainly one of the top four.
“And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.” Luke 1:14
“For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.” Luke 1:44
“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.’” Luke 2:10
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” Matthew 2:10
And as this year draws to a close and a New Year approaches, I think that my word will still be joy. As we have been studying this year in 1 Peter:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:3-9
How about you and your word?
Precious Jesus, we thank You for this year. You have kept Your promises even through the difficulties of the last few months. You have never left us, You have supplied all of our need, and You have been a present help in time of need. May we keep our joy through the holiday season as we wait patiently for Your soon return. Amen.
Amen! My word for this year was trust…God certainly knew what He was doing when He gave it to me! Last month He told me it was time to start focusing on finding joy, as I had seemingly lost mine, so joy will be my word next year as well…He is so good all the time, praying we all choose joy this holiday season 😊
The Holiday season is a time to remember the Greatest Gift from God the Father to/for us. The Babe, Jesus! I think I would choose Thankful as the word.
I have a shirt that I wear and it says what is in my heart, “I choose joy.” God gives us so much joy! Just read all about it in His word!
