“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1

Dear Little-Girl Self

Have you ever considered writing a letter to your “little-girl self”? What would you say to her? Would you admonish her, praise her? I was recently challenged by this question so it is not my own thought. I’ve consider this question and I would tell her the following:

Dear Little-Girl Self,

As you live your life please remember these six things:

  1. You are a daughter of The King, so act like it. Not arrogantly, but humbly and confident of Whose you are—full of mercy and grace for yourself and your world. Pour it out liberally.
  2. You are well loved. The God of the universe paid the dearest price for you and for everyone you see. Don’t cheapen this sacrifice by judging and comparing yourself to others. Be yourself and be true to yourself. Don’t give up.
  3. Everyone feels the same way you do at some point in his or her life. Don’t let what others say or do to you destroy you. Forgive them so that they don’t have control over your life any longer.
  4. Find your purpose in the One who made you. Do everything as if it were for Him. This includes play, homework, work, and every other “mundane” task you perform. Remember that it all belongs to Him—you are just a steward.
  5. Learn to be content in whatever situation you find yourself. Trust in God. This too shall pass. And finally:
  6. Be patient. God isn’t finished with you until He returns or calls you home. On that day, “kiss the world goodbye and go and laugh on glory’s side.”

Love,

Your Bigger-Girl Self

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love, grace, and mercy. May I live as Your princess worthy of the call. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
