No Act of Kindness Is Too Small

Walk His Way Revisited

Recently while walking out of the local movie theater, my friend and I noticed an elderly lady and her daughter having some type of a struggle. It only took a few seconds to realize that the elderly mother, who turned out to be 91, was struggling to walk. It wasn’t clear if her legs had gone to sleep while watching the movie or she was having some other type of problem with her legs, but she was in such pain that she could barely move.

We were the only people remaining in the theater and the clean-up crew was anxious to do their job. I was thinking that there was no way I could help by loaning my walker to her, since it was the only way I could get around myself due to my weakened legs and healing back. Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit prompted me to offer my walker if it would be of any help.

The daughter was so relieved and the fragile little woman gladly collapsed on the folding seat of the walker as if it was a lifejacket. She sat on it while being pushed to the car. It was a small thing for me to sit on the bench and wait for my friend to return with my walker.

The daughter came back to give me a hug and I realized that I knew her from a Bible study group we once attended together, and I had met her mother some time past. God was so faithful to bring the help that was needed at the time, and I, as a handicapped person, was able in my weakness to be of service to the Lord. He had worked my disability for the good of others. It was a small act of kindness that asked so little of me, but I was so thrilled that God could use my talents, gifts, possessions—even a walker—for His service.

Lord, You have the power to still the storm and stop the waves, but You choose the weak and the humble to be of service to You. Thank You for the promptings of the Holy Spirit that guide us toward acts of kindness and love. You bless us when we can show Your love and compassion to others. Please give us a heart that is always willing to reach out to a brother or sister who is hurting and in need of any service or help we can provide through Your strengthening in our lives. Amen.
