“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.” Psalm 92:1-2

So Thankful

Have you ever really thought about how many things we have to be thankful for? Every time I am in the shower I thank God for clean, warm water and a private place to bathe. That leads me into thinking about all the other “creature comforts” I enjoy. I am thankful for friends and family; for a home with a comfortable bed, heat, and electricity; for medical assistance to help heal and ease suffering; for the ability to read and write; for all kinds of freedoms and choices available like where to live, where to work, what to eat, what to wear, whom to marry, what church to attend, recreation, etc. The list is really endless, although many people around the world (some even here in America) do not have access to all these benefits.

As much as I am grateful for the “creature comforts”, they can’t compare to the spiritual blessings I (we) have in Christ (too many to cover here), plus these spiritual blessings are available to anyone no matter their location, race, and gender, social or economic status. Of course I am thankful for salvation, thanks to Jesus our Savior, Intercessor, Advocate, Prince of Peace, and the Lamb of God who takes the sins of the world. Through Him we can have a personal relationship and communion with our heavenly Father.

God is all-powerful, all knowing, and sovereign over all rulers and nations (Psalm 22:28). He is gracious, merciful, compassionate, just, generous and good. He loves, forgives, counsels, guides, protects, delivers, provides, disciplines, and comforts. He redeems, restores and reconciles us to Himself and to each other (2 Corinthians 5:18). He promises us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). He has made us accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6). He empowers us by His Holy Spirit and makes us overcomers and more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). He has given us His Word and all we need that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4). He even tells us what to think on (Philippians 4:8).

He is for us! All this—and heaven too!

In this fallen world with all of its evil and bad news, it would be easy to feel discouraged and hopeless. However, take heart because, “…we know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God and are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). We can be thankful EVERY day throughout the whole year for our great and awesome God, knowing that He loves us and is sovereign, even in times like these.

“Lord, thanks to You I am too blessed to be stressed! As the great I AM, give us thankful hearts and divine confidence to live a life pleasing to You.”
