“…and those that are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:14

Faithful, Part 2

Walk His Way Revisited

Yesterday, we took an in-depth look at our calling to be faithful. Let’s continue with some more thoughts today.

How do we learn this faithfulness? We learn by watching Him. Day after day, year by year we live in His faithfulness to us. We learn in the small and ordinary things of life and as we are faithful in these things, He gives us greater influence and authority. Luke 16:10 says, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” The task may seem small and inconsequential at the time, but take it to heart and give it your all. If you give your word, keep it. When you say you will do a thing, do it. Show up early. See it through. Be consistent, reliable, and dependable. Be found faithful.

There is a scripture dear to my heart in 1 Timothy 1:12: “And I thank Jesus Christ our Lord, who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry…”

Whatever I am, it is because He has done it. Whatever I do for His sake, it is because He has enabled me. He counts me faithful! That’s a lot to live up to, but I am greatly encouraged because He fully believes I can do it! He births faithfulness in me.

Think of the faithful ones you have known. We all have our list of those who have mentored us, inspired us and shown us in word and deed the ways of faithfulness. We know what faithfulness looks like. It graces a lifetime. It does not falter when looking into the eyes of death. It endures suffering, still giving praise and thanksgiving to God. It thwarts temptations and endures betrayal and suffers loss with an unwavering faith. It does the work of prayer. It remains true to the Word of God. It serves. It blesses. It gives. It never quits. “Be faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of  life” (Revelation 2:10).

And if I falter, waver, stumble and fail, my assurance is 2 Timothy 2:13: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful. He cannot deny Himself.” Faithful God!

Faithful Father, work in us to make us faithful in our witness to the world, in our relationships with one another, and especially to You.
