“….But [we will] tell to the generation to come the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, and [tell of] His great might andpower and the wonderful works that He has done.” Psalm 78:4 Amplified Bible
Tell the Deeds of the LORD
I don’t know about you, but it is very easy to focus on all that is going wrong in the world today: COVID, riots, craziness in politics, the economy, personal disappointments, etc. That’s why being in the Word is so important. When I look at the world I’m discouraged and I’m sure I probably discourage my children, but when I look at the Word, I’m filled with hope. The LORD (the covenant-keeping God) did great and mighty and wonderful things for His people Israel even when they continuously rebelled against Him. He has done great and mighty and wonderful things in my life when I have been distracted and even turned away, and He can and most certainly will continue to do great and mighty and wonderful things in the days to come.
He parted the Red Sea, He fed His people manna from heaven, He saved Noah and his family in the ark, He took Joseph from a slave to the second most powerful man in Egypt, He raised Jesus from the dead to secure our salvation and to guarantee an eternity with Him if we will just believe.
In my own life He has protected, provided and brought peace in situations too numerous to count. He has loved me when I was unlovable and whispered sweet words in my ear when I most needed to hear them. He has done the miraculous in my family over and over in relationships, finances and illness. That is not to say that there hasn’t been plenty of heartache and a multitude of battles and storms, but He has never forsaken us.
Rather than focus on what the world is or isn’t doing, let’s focus on what God has, is, and is going to do. I pray when I start to open my mouth about the deficit or my concerns regarding the future in the presence of my kids, I am able to reframe the words to bring glory to God, to tell my kids of the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. He still has great might and power and still does wonderful works; let’s purpose to tell our children those things no matter what the world looks like. Let’s give them hope.
We don’t know what’s going to happen in a number of areas in our country and world, but we know the One who does know and we can trust that He is going to work all things for His glory and our eventual good. We need to impress that upon our kids now more than ever.
Father God, thank You for Your Word, which is filled with displays of Your might and power and wonderful works. May these be the deeds we tell our children. Amen.
What a contrast we see between what we are presented by ‘the news’ and what the Lord has to offer us in the Word and the revelation of His workings in our lives!
Amen Sister! I’m replacing the word “Children” with “co-workers” this morning, since work is where I spend a lot of time. We are responsible to reflect LIGHT in the darkness, and it is becoming a real challenge some days! Thank you for this encouragement.
