“But He needed to go through Samaria…. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, ‘Give Me a drink.’” John 4:4, 7
Initiated Conversation
A mini devotional
I am praying for my prodigal children. I’ve been praying so long without seeing results that I need assurance that God is doing something to bring them to Himself. It’s tempting to imagine some way to initiate conversation in which I am able to maneuver their thoughts to look for Jesus, to realize their need for Him, to know how eternally lost they are.
But we see in today’s scripture that Jesus is the One who initiates that conversation. He initiates forgiveness and restoration. Here was a woman doing a common thing—drawing water—and Jesus was waiting for her right there at the well. He knew everything about her, about the moment, about what she thought she was seeking. He knew when to jump into her life. He knew how to engage her thoughts and her heart.
This brings blessed assurance that His timing will be perfect. He will initiate forgiveness and restoration.
Lord, we ask You to initiate that conversation with our loved ones. We trust You for this. Amen.
Amen
Hugs to you! Sometimes it takes awhile, but God has heard your prayers. My oldest went into the Army right after high school and for many of his 21 yrs there, you would not have known he’d heard of the Lord, but he began to speak what he knew to be true and MANY years later has been set free from alcoholism (or is recovering?). My youngest spent a long time working with people with a far more liberal mindset than mine, but the last job change a few years back put him with people who believe and/or are far more Conservative and his entire life ‘tone’ has changed. Just give thanks for what you know God can/will do!
He sees them. He loves them. He’s always working.
Thank you for sharing ,I am also waiting on God for 3 prodigals. When God spoke to my heart, I found you didnt I ? My hope is renewed every time I think of that.
Though short, this really helped me. Two of my family members have decided there is no God, due to horrible things that happened in their lives. I see now that it’s not my job to try to bring them back. Thank you!
