“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6
Let There Be Light
Lately while praying for different people and I have run out of words or thought, I have heard myself utter the phrase, “Lord, just let there be light!” That started me thinking not only about light, but about praying in His will.
Genesis 1:3 says, “Then God said, ‘Let there be light!'” In verse 4 He declared “the light was good.” This was the first time we are told that God spoke. Since these are His first words recorded in Scripture, light must be especially important and powerful. After all, He is the Light of the world (John 8:12). He has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light to be His own special people (1 Peter 2:9). We are called children of light and are to walk in the light (Ephesians 5:8). “Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17). There is an overwhelming abundance of, and references to, the word “light” in Scripture (272 times). His Word is light.
Think of all that light (His Word) does. It reveals truth and exposes lies. It shines into the dark places where sin and wicked attitudes or motives may have a foothold in the deepest part of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). As a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, it shows stumbling blocks and potential pitfalls (Psalm 119:105). It brings healing (Psalm 107:20) and freedom (John 8:32).
Satan and all of his cohorts dwell and operate in darkness. They have no authority in the light because God is light and in Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us,not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
I don’t understand all that Scripture talks about in terms of election and free will, but I do know He desires that all would come to repentance and not perish.
Scripture tells us that our words are powerful — that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). It makes me wonder just how powerful these words can be when I ask Him to bring light to a person or situation.
Lord, You said You will bring the blind by a way they did not know; that You will lead them in paths they have not known; that You will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things you said You would do for them, and not forsake them (Isaiah 42:16). Let them see and repent! Let there be light! Amen.
Amen! Thank you!
I love this!
Amen! Asking God to shed some light on a situation today!
Amen!
I love whoever does the art work to make it pretty. I think I’ve able to save it so I’m excited to see if I can print this to share.
Yes Lord, fill us with the light of your Word and Your presence today!
Your light is always warm and comforting, and it illuminates so many good things
including the yellow aspen leaves shaking on my trees today.
