“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” Isaiah 43:2-3a

The Ministry of Rescue

Walk His Way Revisited

If a fire raged nearby, threatening our homes and loved ones, wouldn’t we all make every effort to keep everyone safe—even if we ourselves were in no danger?

If a river threatened to overflow its banks and flood a school full of children, wouldn’t we all help with sandbags and getting the children to safety, even if our own child did not attend that school?

If some calamity hit your neighborhood, and there were people unable to obtain food, but you had plenty, wouldn’t you give to them of your abundance, even if they weren’t your friends?

If a well caved in, leaving a deep, dangerous hole, wouldn’t you erect a fence around it and put up signs warning people about the danger?

If we saw a roaring lion roaming the streets of our city, wouldn’t we warn as many people as we could?

Although we rarely experience these tragic events in the flesh, we encounter them daily in the spiritual world. The fires of hell threaten our homes and loved ones. The floods of fear and uncertainty rush at our family and friends, trying to knock them off their feet and drown them. Hunger for spiritual things gnaws at the inside of people, and they do not know how to feed themselves. Many are the deep pits that people dig for themselves with bad choices. That roaring lion is real—our enemy, Satan, the hater of our souls—and wanders to and fro on the earth, looking to devour the one who isn’t paying attention.

We know these things are real in the spiritual world. If we have our eyes and ears open to spiritual things, we will be able to grasp the opportunities the Lord brings us to warn others about them. If dangers in the flesh bring our compassions to the surface and cause us to take action, shouldn’t it be even more so with spiritual attacks and dangers?

Fires of hell: Tell others about Jesus and salvation. Be an evangelist. (Yes, you can!)

Floods of fear and uncertainty: Encourage others in the Lord. Remind them about His protection and the safety found when we hide in Him.

Personal calamities that bring about a hunger and thirst for the things of God: Be the one who shares the great things God has done in and for you, that they may partake.

Deep pits: Help any who have fallen in to get out and stay out, and warn others to stay away.

And about that roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour: Be sure others know he is lurking, finding weaknesses that he may attack. Don’t allow them to be deceived by his lies. Speak up, warn, and exhort. Lead them away from danger.

“Father, many things may threaten us, but You are our fortress. Give us wisdom to see the dangers, and make us willing to snatch others away from destruction. Help us to love people as You do, so we will reach out to them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
