“Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” 1 Chronicles 16:8
Give Thanks
One of the wow moments for me of the second week of our Practice Makes Progress LCC Women’ Bible Study was a quote the teacher saw on a pillow: “What would you do if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today?” For most of us, that’s quite a convicting/sobering thought isn’t it?
In the KNJV of the Bible, the phrase “Give Thanks” is found 40 times in 39 verses, making me think it’s important to God, so it ought to be important to me as well.
Psalm 75:1 of the Amplified Bible says: “We give thanks and praise to You, O God, we give thanks, for Your (wonderful works declare that Your) name is near; people declare Your wonders.”
Are we people of thanks? Do we declare God’s wonderful works and His wonders?
Fall has arrived—the skies are mostly blue again—there is anticipation in the air when I step out in the cool of the morning. Leaves are starting to turn color on a few of our trees—it’s beautiful and I am indeed thankful. The changing seasons, oddly enough, remind me of the consistency of God. He orchestrates the seasons as He has since He created them, which brings me peace and gives me hope.
Let’s purpose in our hearts to give thanks to God for (at least) three things today. May we make that a daily habit, as an attitude of gratitude helps brings joy and peace and also helps us extend grace and mercy. It also opens the door to blessings God longs to pour out into our lives.
Father God, there are so many things to give thanks to You about today and every day. Forgive us when we forget to or just plain don’t feel like it. May we be known as thankful women who make Your deeds and wonders known among the people. Amen.
What a great habit to develop! I’m usually ‘good’ at thanking the Lord at the time something happens or as something crosses my mind, but that would be a nice way to remember daily (3X) to be mindful of the Lord’s care for us.
Amen! Thankfulness make a huge difference in my daily attitude. Thanks for sharing.
I have been doing this for a while and it has truly changed my attitude,
