“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…” Zechariah 4:10 NLT

Small Things

Walk His Way Revisited

Small, according to God, does not mean insignificant. As we read in God’s Word, we recognize that many of His great works began with small things, therefore He warns us in this passage of scripture in Zechariah that we are not to despise small beginnings. The word despise is a strong word. In the dictionary it reads, “to regard with contempt, distaste or disdain, scorn or loathe.” Our Lord Jesus came to this earth as a small baby, yet the whole world has an invitation to accept or reject Him as Lord and Savior. The small baby Jesus, whom sadly some people despised, now sits at the right hand of God in heaven.

God begins with us in our day of small beginnings. The day we choose to confess our sins and to acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior, is a day of small beginnings that the Lord rejoices to see the work begin in us. He sees the beginning and the end. He may put a desire or ministry on our heart, and when He does, we may perceive that His plan should happen over night—and sometimes it does. However, we should not get discouraged or angry about things that are not moving as fast as we think they should. We can make our plans, but God has bigger plans. We may feel that we’re not moving forward or that He’s taking us on a detour. We may even feel that He has put our plans on hold for a season; but whatever our thought process is at the time, He’sstill working on our behalf, and progress is still in motion. It is God who instills the plans and desires into our hearts, and it is our responsibility to be diligent in seeking Him daily for His guidance while we work independently for His purpose in this Kingdom life.

“Hope is not a granted wish or favor performed; no, it is far greater than that. It is a zany, unpredictable dependence on a God who loves to surprise us out of our socks” (Max Lucado).

The day of any small beginning is a day when there is hope for great things to come. Don’t allow the enemy to tell you that you are small and insignificant, that you or your ideas don’t matter, or that you have nothing to offer. If we believe in our heart that any small thing or small beginning will come to a big thing, then we can rejoice; however, if we believe any small thing is nothing, then we are actually despising God’s work—the Maker of heaven and earth.

Lord, we thank You so much for sending Your Son as a small baby, to walk and minister on this earth, and His obedience to die on the cross for us. We are ever so grateful! We love you Lord, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
