“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!” Psalm 84:11-12 NKJV

Smooth Sailing

I made a phone call the other day to one of my grandchildren. His birthday was coming up, and being “sheltered in place,” I was concerned for him for being unable to have family and friends over for his birthday party—he was turning thirteen years old! I don’t know about you, as parents and grandparents, but for me it’s heartbreaking and grievous to know that they have to miss out on many things and endure this time in their life at such young ages.

Then the Lord snapped me out of my tears and reminded me that He’s watching over them—over all of us. God used my grandson’s reply that day which was of such sweetness of attitude…it totally blessed my heart. Now, this grandchild is one in particular who would share with me about his day—mainly when he was attending school—when some of his peers were not treating him nicely, or whatever situation was troubling him for that day—and therefore,  I would listen intently and try to comfort or instruct  him the best I could.

However, this conversation was as if he was “smooth sailing”  on calm waters as the wind was carrying him gently on his pandemic journey. This, as my daughter would say,was “a wink of God’s eye” letting me know that my prayers for our grandchildren are being answered. He’s got them covered and sheltered under His wings.

I continued with my conversation with him, by asking what he would like for his birthday this year. He said he didn’t need anything, but I asked him again, “what would you like?” I mentioned that I could have his gift shipped directly to him at his address, even though we live only forty-five minutes apart in driving distance. He started sharing with me the details of what he desired, and when he finished his description, I asked him if he could please text the item to meand that I would get it ordered right away. Then we both laughed at the same time.

Those of you who are parents and grandparents…isn’t it simply a joy to be involved in their lives—whether near or far—through happiness and heartbreak? Most of us live at a distance during this pandemic, but some are fortunate to have them living in the same house—which may create other challenges.

God has placed each one of us in the right place as we shelter at home. We can hang on to His promise in our Scripture for today while we pray, actively wait, and trust in Him.

Thank You, Lord, for protecting our children and grandchildren through this time that is challenging the whole world. May we rest in Your peace while on this journey. Amen.
