“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
Mourning and What Matters
Like each of you reading this, there is a lot of processing going on in our home these past few weeks. Kids have questions, adults have questions, and everyone has on some level had feelings of fear and uncertainty.
I was having a conversation with my 10-year-old that went something like this, (I’ll call her Rosey.)
“You know, Rosey? Right now there are a lot of unknowns. For example, we don’t know when you kids will return to school. We don’t even know if you WILL go back this school year.”
“Yes, I know Mom.”
“I don’t know if your sister will have a graduation. I don’t know when I’ll take my entrance exam. I don’t even know when we can go to the mall again!”
“I miss my friends and my teacher.”
“Yes, I know. BUT… I also DO know that if Jesus came back today, we would be more happy and joyful than any and all of that! AND none of those things would matter because we would be with Him for eternity.”
“Yes, Mom you are right.”
Revelation for me was that the light bulb came on! This is how I and each of us should be living out each and every day regardless of our surrounding circumstances. None of the strange times we are in are a surprise to our Heavenly Father, and He has given me a refreshing eternal perspective through them.
Yes, it is a mourning process letting go of the things that may not be, but in eternal perspective, I can choose to focus on what matters.
Dear Father, the struggle is real when I feel the pull between flesh and Spirit daily during this time. My soul’s desire is to be walking in Your Spirit daily and being ready daily for the second coming of Jesus. Please let me not forget these times no matter what the future holds. Amen.
Amen!
Amen sister! Thank you for sharing this!
