Let Go and Let God

Walk His Way Revisited

First posted in February, 2014

As I was mall walking one morning, I became aware of the live flowering plants that had been recently planted in the big planters inside the mall. Less than a week after they were put in, I noticed that some of them were already starting to wilt and wither. At first I thought they just weren’t getting watered, but on closer observation I saw that the soil was damp so that wasn’t the problem. Then I remembered some of the flowers I had transplanted from small pots that didn’t make it. The problem was that their roots were so tight and bound up that the water and nutrients couldn’t penetrate them – the water would just run over the top and down the outside leaving the roots very dry. The “gardener” needed to loosen the tight, bound up roots so they could go out into the rich soil and bloom to their full potential.

This seemed to be a picture of how strongholds keep us in bondage, thus preventing us from walking in the victory and living the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. This made me think of “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man(or when I was born again), I put away childish things” (1 Corinthians 13:11).

I’m thankful that our Gardener is willing and able to break our strongholds so we can receive the freedom, courage, and power to walk in our giftings and enjoy sweet fellowship with Him.  Keep in mind that, like those plants, we can’t do it ourselves, and we must ALLOW Him to “mess with our roots,” which will most likely be uncomfortable and possibly downright painful for a season!

If we would only believe what His Word says (and we even need His help to do that) we would submit to Him and trust His ways, though we will never fully understand them.

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief! I am willing to step out of my comfort zone, let go of my old ways of thinking, and allow You to have Your way with me so that Your living water can penetrate my whole being and be manifested in a life of fruitfulness that brings You honor and glory!
