I never loved Him until I knew Him.

The more I read His Word, the more I know Him, for He reveals Himself with astounding descriptions. If we would pause and ponder Him, our jaws would drop in awe and reverence.

Who is like our God? What other god can break chains of bondage just by speaking a word? Or heal illness and disability from afar? What other god can send Satan running with just a look?

What other god can forgive sins? Cleanse a heart? Choose someone to be a son or daughter? What other god has the wisdom to prepare someone from birth to do a special work?

What other god can cast sin as far away as the east is from the west? Or command weather systems, oceans, beasts, and birds to do his bidding?

Whose voice sounds like many waters? Whose eyes blaze like fire, who else wears many crowns, and whose countenance is like the sun shining in its strength? Who else comes with clouds? Who else writes a book containing the names of people who speak of him?

Who else was dead, but now lives, and has the key of Hades and Death? Who else sits on the throne of heaven and commands the nations and peoples? Who else will everyone on earth bow to?

Who else has a name written that no one knows except himself? What other god holds stars in his hands, and engraves our name on his heart? Who else has the authority to write my name in the Book of Life?

Who thinks of me uncountable times every day, and every thought is for my good? Who else’s son could have purchased my redemption by spilling his blood? Who else had a son perfect enough to do so?

What other god wants me in eternity with him, and keeps me securely in his hand until it is time for me to go? What god speaks a language that can be understood and heard around the world, since time began, until time ends? What other god speaks so that animals, stars, planets, seas, winds, tides, trees, rocks, mountains, waves, and every other facet of nature can hear and understand him? What other god would rocks cry out to, and trees clap for, and hills skip before?

There are a thousand other abilities and attributes we could ascribe to the one, true God, all found written in His Word about Himself. The more we know Him, the more we love Him, and the more awe and reverence we will have for Him.

Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see more of You in Your Word. Help us pay attention and learn. May we pause at every mention of Your greatness, and be in awe. In Jesus’ Name we ask. Amen.
