Suddenly, a vast host of a heavenly army appeared with the angel praising God saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest! And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased.’” Luke 2:13-14 NET

Suddenly

Every December we visit this section in scripture. Tucked away in Luke 2, we see heaven open, and truth revealed beyond comprehension! What an exciting proclamation of the One who deserves all the glory, worship and attention, and of the life-changing event suddenly taking place. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us showing His glory, giving grace, truth, and powerful love to a very needy world (from John 1:14).

Every time I read it, the impact of this glorious night amazes me. I’m sure it didn’t feel so glorious for Mary having a baby in a sheep’s shelter or for Joseph, so worried about his wife and finding no place to rest and give birth—and for baby Jesus being born through a human body to expose His glory to a sin-filled world.

The whole miracle leading up to this night, and the event taking place outside of Bethlehem, were glorious! Even the angels were amazed, overcome with praise and adoration with the announcement they could not hold back, made to a group of common shepherds nearby. I’m sure even the animals were stunned! The angels are still making this announcement to anyone who will open their heart and ears to hear this song of redemption.

Our Savior chose to redeem mankind because of LOVE beyond our comprehension.

Majesty from heaven came to save us from our sin and rescue us from eternal hell. When we open our hearts to believe, He suddenly overcomes us with His presence and glory. The angel choir that is unseen in the natural, is in heaven loudly praising the glory of God in the highest!

I’m praying for this reality to embrace us afresh as we celebrate His birth this year. May our joy be refreshing to others, and may the unbelieving people in our lives be exposed to His glorious life-giving love through us, and suddenly be overcome with the reality of being changed forever. Merry Christmas!

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to save and rescue us. We pray for a deeper understanding of this event, causing us to fall more in love with Jesus. May our light of love shine brightly, encouraging fellow believers, and drawing those who do not know You to a changed life. Glory to God in the highest and peace among people with whom He is well pleased!
