“The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” Isaiah 58:11
Dry Desert…Drench Daily
My daughter once accepted a job to take care of watering outside plants. The watering included plants, trees and best of all a lovely row of roses. Her instructions were to water probably two or three times a week. But then a heat wave struck. 108-, 109-degree temperatures demanded more than two or three times a week and that is when I got thinking about what we need when it is hot and dry in the spiritual realm.
The roses were the first order of business and as they soaked up the water it felt satisfying watching the water pool and soak into the ground. How my spirit and soul are satisfied when I meet my Savior in the morning with an exchange of wills and His Word to feed me, water me.
But then when we would return after a hot day, it was as if they hadn’t even been watered the day before. How could that be? Wasn’t a half hour of watering sufficient to at least last a couple days? Even when there hadn’t been a 100+ day, we still felt urgently that the roses needed daily water!
When I dug a little deeper on the Isaiah verse above, this is what I found from David Guzik’s words:
“It is a guided life: The LORD will guide you continually.
It is a satisfied life: And satisfy your soul in drought.
It is a fragrant life: Like a watered garden.
It is a freshly sustained life: Like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
That last line, “a freshly sustained life,” struck me. I know that too many people in my everyday life are looking to me for guidance and watching my life for me to not be “freshly sustained.”
Not many days passed by before the reward of two different rose bushes yielding some beautiful colored roses—pale yellow and a pretty bright pink! I want my inner spirit to both look and smell like those lovely roses!
“Lord, please let me remember this comparison and apply it daily so that my continual watering by Your Word and voice become and stay evident in my life. Wherever my day carries me or whether it is just here at home, just like those watered roses, I desire to be beautiful inside and carry the fragrance of You to others. Amen.”
Amen! Great example.
Thanks for writing! Blessed my day!
This is my prayer todsy
I loved this part about exchanging my will for His will. I never thought of it likes this. Thank you for the new perspective. “How my spirit and soul are satisfied when I meet my Savior in the morning with an exchange of wills and His Word to feed me, water me.”
Amen
Thank you Jesus Christ for keeping my soul watered.
