“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

My Portion

Today God placed a song in my heart. He often does this with me as He knows my heart and my mind better than I know myself. He knows what will comfort me and give me assurance that He is near—His eye is on me, and He’s watching me and drawing me closer to Him.

“I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”*

These little birds, so minute, so insignificant to the human eye at times—God never overlooks them. They are never forgotten—He feeds them—His eye is on them. And ever so much more than the sparrows—He has His eye on you and me at all times. We are so valuable to God—we are never overlooked from His divine care.

God places the food on the ground for these little birds. They land on the ground because our Heavenly Father already placed it there for them.

God is my portion; therefore I am happy. I am free because I know He watches me, and I know that He has already placed whatever I need in front of me.

He shows us the way when we keep our hearts and minds on Him as we follow Him faithfully. He leads us through sufferings and we give Him glory. He is our portion—our morsel—our all.

“Jesus, we thank You for this reminder that Your eye is always upon us. You have a plan to take care of us as we live our lives for You in whatever task is set before us. We continue to set our dependence on You while You teach us along our journey on this earth and prepare us for the life to come. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
