“He led me to a place of safety; He rescued me because He delights in me.” (2 Samuel 22:20; Psalm 18:19 NLT)

The Lord Delights In Us

To be delighted in something is to take great pleasure in it. The Lord delights in you and I. Isn’t that amazing! This is a word of encouragement He fairly often asks me to give one of His children who perhaps need to be reminded of it, or maybe never even considered it as a possibility. Not only does He care for our well-being, keep us safe, forgive us, and love on us, but one of the reasons He does so is because He delights in us.

He is also delighted or pleased to work for us. “Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32 CSB*). Sometimes we are so worried about how we are going to get through each day or have enough money or food or whatever, we take our eyes off the One who delights in giving us His Kingdom, which is so much more than the other things we are chasing. In this particular verse God is talking about making us partners in His Kingdom!

Not only is God directing the big things in our lives, but the little details matter to Him, too. Psalm 37:23 (NLT) tells us, “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” Those details give Him pleasure. The other day a friend was headed somewhere, took a wrong turn, going quite a bit out of her way, but in doing so saw the most beautiful sunset she had ever seen—her response, though at first bewildered and frustrated, was “Jesus must have wanted me to see it.” God isn’t just concerned with the big things in our lives, He cares about the smallest details. They bring Him joy as much as He longs for them to bring us joy. My friend could’ve just remained bewildered and frustrated, but she chose to see the beauty in the situation. Sometimes God’s direction takes us to unexpected places, places we don’t intend to or even particularly want to go, but they can be beautiful places if we let them.

Continuing in Psalm 37:24 (NLT), “Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.” This paints a picture of a daddy lovingly holding onto his little girl’s hand, keeping her safe, upright and secure in how loved she is. That’s what our Abba Father does for us, ladies, and He delights in doing so.

My prayer is we would become more conscious of the ways the Lord shows His delight in us. May we anticipate and find joy in them, and thank Him for them.

“Father God, it amazes and fills us with gratitude that You delight in us. Thank You for the many ways You show it. Amen.”
