“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:3 NIV

On the Eighth Day, God Created the Burrito

“I’m starving Grandma!”

“Well, we had better do something about that! Where would you like to go?”

Without a second thought, “Burrito Bandito!”

I didn’t get the privilege of picking him up from school very often anymore, so I looked forward to spending some time with him. God has blessed my grandson with a wonderful sense of humor. After savoring his first bite, he looked at me with a grin and said, “On the eighth day, God created the burrito, and God said ‘It is good’!” We laughed, but just in case, I said “Forgive us, Lord, if that was sacrilege.”

We spoke of God’s sense of humor. We agreed that He must have a sense of humor since he blessed us with such, and we are made in His image. Have you ever just sat at an airport or a mall and observed His creation of people? If so, I need not go any further. How about the animals? For those of you who own pets, knowing God created these wonderful animals for our companionship and our delight, these little furry family members certainly do keep us not just smiling but laughing out loud.

I recall another “creation conversation” when I was driving another grandson to school. As a truck passed by, he asked me if God created the cars and trucks. I thought for a minute, and then answered, “In a way, He did. You see, all things were created by Him, for Him, and through Him. He made the rubber trees that they make tires from, the metals are made from iron ore they mine from the ground which He made, and even houses are made from the things He created.”

I believe God is still in the business of creating as He did when He gave certain men the knowledge and ability to build His tabernacle. He places in the heart and minds of His creation the desire, what to build, what materials they need, and gives them instructions how to put things together from start to completion.

So, did God create the burrito on the eighth day? Not specifically, but the idea to make the burrito came from Him because without Him, nothing was made that has been made. I believe this means He is still creating all of the wonderful things we enjoy.

“Lord, thank You for Your beautiful creation of people, animals, mountains, trees and clouds. Your creation makes us smile and takes our breath away, and some things are downright funny and make us laugh! Thank You for giving us a sense of humor, so that we can laugh over a burrito.”
