“Go therefore and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you; and be sure of this—that I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” Matthew 28:19-20

The Lord Said Go!

The church administrator caught my husband outside the church and told him that one of the missionaries had asked for him personally by name. For what? To come overseas and teach at one of the pastors conferences! To say I was excited is an understatement. God is finally giving my husband an opportunity to teach. I didn’t question it; I knew that since he was asked for by name, it was certainly God’s will for him to go.

Then we found out that I was to come with him. Oh boy, this changed everything. Now it was a matter of serious prayer! Why was it I was so excited for him to go, but when I was supposed to go with him my excitement turned to fear? Now my husband and I were on the same page! I’m unqualified. Not to mention I dreaded having to ask people for support. I love to give it, but was reluctant to ask because everyone I knew was in our same financial bind.

A friend said to me, “Why would you rob people of the blessing of giving?” She had a good point. Still, the Lord had to confirm to us eight times before we were sure that we were to go. I say that now with an embarrassed grin of remembrance. Below is the poem that I wrote as I was praying one day for a very clear answer whether or not we were supposed to go.

THE LORD SAID GO

The Lord’s said go and that should be enough

“But Lord,” I argued, “I don’t have the right stuff!”
My heart says, “Yes, Lord, Your fields I will glean”

My body replied, “No way, not even in your dream.”
I replied to my body, “You are made by the Lord!”

so I picked up my Bible and sharpened my sword.
Fixed my eyes on Jesus and renewed my mind,

my body chimed in, “I  was wrong, you’ll be fine.”
The Lord doesn’t ask for ability
But the Lord does ask for “avail- ability.”
So I’m buying my ticket; no way I would stay
The Lord said go, so I’m on my way!

“Thank You, Lord, for clarifying so kindly that You did want us to go. Thank You, Father God, for going with us and showing us that ‘Humility is that moment you realize who GOD is and who you are.’ Thank You for Your patience with us, even to the end of the world.”
