“’For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord… Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” Luke 2:11, 14

Christmas Traditions

I love Christmas…the music, the lights, celebrating our Savior’s birthday.

We have several family traditions: watching our favorite Christmas movies, going to get a live Christmas tree—usually somewhere in the woods, with hot cocoa and a picnic (although last year it was a tree lot in town with Dutch Bros, which was surprisingly ok!)

We celebrate Christmas Eve by studying a different culture, learning how to say Merry Christmas in their language, going out to eat their food, finding an ornament that will go with the theme and then going to the Christmas Eve Service at the Convention Center.

Christmas Day is filled with family, food, presents and usually a nap. We try not to get too caught up in the commercialism; we get together and make crafts, laugh, play games and love on one another.

What I love most about Christmas is—even in the frantic pace most people seem to get in from the middle of October through the first part of January—Christmas is a time of love, peace and joy. People seem kinder, even in the rush. The familiar bells ring outside stores, and people give.

“Father God, thank You for this time of celebration—of true peace on earth and goodwill toward men. Help us to remember in the midst of the hustle and bustle, even in the midst of our favorite traditions, the real reason we celebrate Christmas is Your love shown to us through the precious gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
