HIS ACTION
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12
Light of the World and Beyond
HIS EXAMPLE TO US
Jesus is the light of the world.
MY STORY
“This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.” We like to teach our children this song in Sunday School and its lyrics are well known when it is sung. We envision a tiny candle glowing in the darkness and it only takes a small light to dispel the darkness for sure; however, recently I saw a video advertisement for a Christian book that makes me rethink my “light.” The video starts with a small girl boldly singing this little song and as it goes on, she gets older singing more slowly and eventually her little candle goes out. The author then asks the question: “Who said your light is small?” as he points out a cosmic explosion of light that erases all the darkness much like how I envision the response to God’s first spoken words in Genesis 1:3, “Let there be light,” might have been. What if our light is really not that small after all?
MY RESPONSE
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Think about it. It is true a city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither can the light of Jesus in us be hidden. The pressures in this life can certainly tempt us to let our light go out, but we need to LET IT SHINE! LET IT SHINE!
MY PRAYER
“Dear precious Jesus, thank You that You are our light in this world and that Your light erases the darkness. We look forward to the kingdom to come where there is no need for a sun or a moon because You will be the only light we need. Strengthen us today to shine for you in this dark world. In Your Name we pray. Amen.”
It DOES put a new perspective on the light in us!
