“I come to Your altar, O LORD, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all Your wonders.”
Psalm 26:6b-7 NLT

Wonders

My youngest daughter and I are doing a Bible study this summer called “Me, Myself and Lies.” It’s about the things we tell ourselves—consciously and subconsciously—the names we call ourselves, what we think about most, etc. The gist of it is to replace with God’s truth the negative lies we speak to ourselves and the enemy speaks to us. Part of this week’s homework was to think about and list God’s wonders. My list consisted of: things in nature I’m drawn to (sunrises and sunsets, waterfalls and oceans, stars, redwoods); and things I’m grateful for (my kids, my marriage, the miracles He has performed in our lives.)

Not coincidentally, I’m sure, I started listening to a Third Day CD that has been hidden away in my car for months. One of the songs on it is “May Your Wonders Never Cease.”* The chorus is: “May Your wonders never cease, may Your Spirit never leave, may we ever long to see Your face.”

My desire for this study is that my daughter will be able to see herself as God sees her, to start now while she is young speaking God’s truth to herself, and as a natural result, to others. I pray she will not have to replace years of negativity and lies, but that truth would be her foundation. I pray she would come to the Lord’s altar, once again singing as she did when she was little, and she would proclaim His wonders, the miracle of His creation and miracles He has performed in hers and others lives.

I lift up that same prayer for all of us. No matter what the circumstances are in your life, I pray you would see God’s truth in the midst, you would remember and tell of the wondrous things He has done. I pray you hear Him speak words of light and life and feel His Spirit bring comfort, peace and renewal. Ladies, I pray we sing to Him with thanksgiving and ever long to see His face.

May we be like David in Psalm 40:5: “O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all Your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.”

“Lord, help us to replace the lies we tell ourselves, or listen to, with Your truth. Thank You for the countless wonders You perform in our lives. Help us to remember and declare them today with thanksgiving. Amen.”
