“I cried out, ‘I am slipping!’ but Your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” Psalm 94:18-19 NLT
Support and Comfort
The psalmist is talking about all the evil going on around him, and yet he still knows Who to turn to, Who is in control. The wicked may think God doesn’t hear or care, but He does. The psalmist knows to cry out to God—He will be there.
The same applies today. There is evil all about, and yet I know God hears, sees and cares. I know when we cry out to Him, He is there. I know in the end the righteous will prevail. We will be supported by God.
He comforts us and renews our hope in the midst of our doubts if we will but let Him. My husband and I recently went away for our 27th anniversary. Due mostly to a chronic illness, I was pretty sick for 2 of the 3 days we were gone. We still did some of the things we had planned to do, but we (or should I say, my husband in his concern for me) crossed a few other things off our list. It was a wise choice, but it still felt like defeat somehow. It felt like we were slipping hard and fast, but God in His unfailing love did support us. It gave us opportunity to have a hard, but necessary, conversation regarding limitations my health might place on our future travels, and the need to get some affairs in order, not with a fatalistic mentality, but in a realistic “let’s be prepared” kind of way.
We all slip and have doubts, whether about the evil in the world, or something going on in our personal lives. The question is, who do we turn to? Do we trust that God will support us? Do we receive His comfort and the renewed hope and the cheer (or joy) it brings?
My prayer for us today is this: if you feel like you or someone you love is slipping, cry out to God—He will support you. If you are filled with doubts, talk to Him. He will bring you comfort and hope.
“Lord, in whatever situation we find ourselves in, we thank You for supporting and comforting us. Amen.”
I know the one all permanent reassuring love & faithfulness I can always rely on is God. Thank you so much for your unending, undying love. I am continually comforted by this thought in a world full of cruelty & way too much evil. God watch over us & your love completes me. Hallelujah…. Amen
What a beautiful way God is using you and your husband to work through the good times and the challenging ones too. Thanks for sharing your heart to help encourage others! Bless you.
